“Sue is a printmaker-artist with a colourful, playful, and conversational practice.  Using her pop-up screen printing machine, Sue held events at a skatepark, a pub, on the beach, at KARST gallery, in the city centre, with a school, and online through Instagram Stories and sending prints through the post. This project allowed the British Art Show to go beyond the galleries and reach people where they are. Sue’s approach was creative and exciting with a focus on openness to new ideas and experiences, both for the participants and for developing her own practice.

Sue’s project was refreshing in the way she could directly and authentically engage with people across the city that might not otherwise feel contemporary art shows were for them, whilst avoiding any prejudgement as to who those people might be.”

- Joe Lyward, The British Art Show 9.

“Sue has been a strong advocate and supporter of the Plymouth Design Forum (PDF) since its conception in 2017. Not only has Sue provided a strong voice and creative leadership within PDF since that time, but she has also worked tirelessly to create PDF's beermat calling cards, which are an ever-present collectors' item at all of our events.

Her professionalism, positivity and passion for design, printmaking, and creativity in general, seemingly have no bounds, and PDF is proud to have Sue as a member of our management committee, helping us to steer the organisation into the future.”

‘Our school worked with Sue on a British Art Show 9 Ambassador project. Sue’s personality is infectious and we planned a project to use art as a way to bring people together, and create a space for their ideas to shine through. After several visits to Sue’s studio for creative conversations the project started, we could see straightaway how her blend of expertise and charisma inspired our pupils and their parents to try new things and express themselves through creative activities. Parents shared feedback; ‘Sue is the people's artist' and they asked for more opportunities to try Sue’s style of 'have a go art'. We think Sue is an artist like no other and are excited to work together again.’

- Dave Sammels, Head Teacher, Mayflower Academy.

‘It's been such a pleasure to work with Sue on our ‘More Radical Ideas’ limited edition screen print - her attention to details is second to none, and she has absolutely come up with the goods.’

- Rachel Dobbs & Hannah Rose, LOW PROFILE Artists

“It has been invaluable to have Sue working with Take A Part and Prime Skatepark as a creative practitioner leading workshops around expanded collage practice for the PRIMEdesign group. Having previously worked with Sue, knowing her practice, her ability to lead workshops and her more personal connections to the skateboarding landscape - we felt really confident that Sue would be able to design a really engaging module of activities for a group of teenage skaters who might think they have no interest in art or artistic skill.

From the first activity the group undertook, a connectivity between the parallels of skateboarding and undertaking artistic processes were evident to the young people; and they had a really fun and creative time across the sessions they did with Sue which ultimately helped with the confidence in exploring creative skills.

Sue is not only an extremely personable workshop leader, she makes the planning stages of developing this type of work much more straightforward by her diligent and organised approach to planning sessions.”

- Lucy Elmes, Take A Part Special Programmes Producer

“Sue is a passionate and generous artist, interested in awakening creativity amongst the most diverse audiences. Her “Colossal” projects are the proof of how creative and generous she is in finding solutions that allow her to share her love of printmaking with others. Her experience and engaging practice were a highlight of the BAS9 ambassadors programme in Plymouth.”

- Sabrina Candido, Plymouth Culture.

Sue supported me with my Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) Arts Council funded project in 2023. To learn the process of screen printing onto gilded glass using enamel inks. I had limited knowledge of the screen printing process and Sue was incredible at applying her knowledge and skills to the glass canvas, identifying what I needed to reach the desired outcome in reverse glass gilding.

Sue was flexible and adapted her water based approach to working with enamel inks. Her enthusiasm and energy gave me the confidence to bring my project into realisation. My final artwork, having worked in detail alongside Sue, was a success. Sue's holistic approach is beneficial and she provided me with a reference guide to continue on my own. I enjoyed working with Sue and would happily collaborate again and again!

- Camilla Rose, Signwriter.

‘Sue has been such a dream to work with during our Arts & Minds programme (people living with dementia and their carers). She has had so many wonderful original ideas based on John Akomfrah's visionary landscapes showcased at the Museum.

Sue has a kind and warm energy that made myself and the group feel very held in her workshop from start to finish. And she is the most organised person that I think that I have ever worked with!’

- Alice Robinson-Carter, Learning Facilitator at The Box.

"Our visit to Sue's studio at Alma Yard was an eye-opening exploration of various printmaking techniques.

Sue's welcoming and instructive environment allowed us to delve into the world of printmaking, from traditional methods to the exciting hands-on experience of screen printing.

The session not only offered practical insights into artistic processes but also became a platform for cultural exchange and personal expression. From traditional Ukrainian Petrykivka paintings to reflecting on life in Plymouth with the iconic Smeaton's tower.”
