Arts & Minds: Creativity and laughter at The Box.

In March, I collaborated with The Box to create a workshop for their Arts & Minds programme which uses The Box’s collections and exhibitions to improve wellbeing for people living with dementia and their carers.

Inspired by the landscapes depicted in John Akomfrah's visionary film ‘Arcadia’ on display at The Box. Drawing from the essence of local nature intertwined with Akomfrah's vision, participants were invited to embark on a journey of individual exploration through the mediums of screen printing and collage.

As the artist in the process, I curated a diverse archive of local and global imagery, providing source material for participants to draw inspiration from. What ensued was a vibrant atmosphere filled with laughter and camaraderie, as each participant eagerly contributed to the collective pool of creativity.

Reflecting on the experience, this workshop stands out as one of the most dynamic gatherings I've been part of to date. It was truly heartening to witness everyone immersed in the creative process, exchanging stories and memories, and forging connections through the shared experience.

I most certainly left with my glass full that day.

Thank you Alice Robinson (Learning Facilitator), Jane (Volunteer) for getting stuck in, and Dom Moore for capturing the moments on camera.
